Short story/poem 1

Everyone gathered as the sergeant fell. He was the last one standing. Now they had no commanders and would have to find a new one. Everybody looked down at him with faces full of sorrow. He shut his eyes and gulped in his final breath of air.

The foes cheered when they saw what happened and they launched at an easy opportunity. Bullets fired and gunshots ringed through brains as dozens of soldiers fell. Like dominoes, one after the other. Except for a small group of men.

Only they werent men. They were sixteen and afraid. They acted brave until now. They hid behind anything they could find as their partners fell. One teenager stood. Gun readied in position of a enemy. He knew if he fired his hiding place was gone but what was one more man to thirty odd?

He made sure it was pointing outwards and not towards him. One last exhale of the bitter air surrounding him. A bang sounded and he knew it was his. His mind worked fast. Faster than he could comprehend. The shot was done and foes turned their heads towards him. Was this the end? Had he just stupidly given his life away?

Yes, he had. Men scoured over towards him like hungry wolves. They ran in a group knowing he couldn't kill them all. A dozen guns were pointed at him. He stood still waiting patiently for the pain but none occurred. Because it happened too fast. The pain didn't get time to set in before he saw the light of day one last time.
